Odeon Chamber Strings was recorded in a spacious 2,000 sq ft room, capturing the grandeur and depth of a true orchestral environment. Embracing the classic orchestral layout, every section was positioned in their traditional stage placements, allowing for natural ensemble interaction and spatial realism. A rich array of microphones—including the iconic Decca Tree, outriggers, close, and ambient mics—were meticulously arranged to deliver a flexible, mix-ready sound that feels both cinematic and alive. Whether you're after wide, lush textures or intimate detail, this setup brings you the full spectrum of orchestral depth right out of the box.

A beautiful, useful, high-quality library that could benefit from expanded legato options

Like Temme, I'm already a big fan of Insanity Samples. I wasn't in the market for a chamber strings library, but the demos and walkthrough videos won me over.

I love the sound, the depth of functionality and the ease of use. I find myself constantly writing little noodles just to experiment with it. The dynamics and vibrato are a particular highlight.

I knew before buying it that the library didn't have portamento and glissando options on legato, but I do wish it had something along those lines. I'd love to hear this same sound, but with some added options in legato.

I'd also note that the spiccato articulation here is much gentler than in Insanity's Neo Strings solo strings library. You can definitely get punch in other ways with Odeon, especially given the smooth, expansive dynamics, but it is worth noting.

Overall, I'm very, very pleased. This is an excellent library, and if Insanity Samples continues on their current trajectory, it's only going to get better with time.

ODEON CS. A serious new contender on the chamber strings libraries front.

First of all: I’m biased because I already am a very satisfied Insanity Samples customer. As a developer Billy and his team have been amazing. Not only have they taken on ever more ambitious recording projects, the quality of their ideas and their continual new explorations have NOT stood in the way of continually updating their existing catalogue of instruments. On the contrary. Any new idea has sort of trickled down to the existing sample libraries that have now seen numerous quality updates. Bugs, if there are any, are promptly fixed, new functionality results in new versions of old libraries and so far those have all been completely free of charge for their user base. Absolutely Insanity belong to the most well run indie businesses in this industry. Communication and support are also top notch.

So that was me explaining my bias. What about ODEON? I have yet to take them out of full scale compositional challenges. My noodling so far has already convinced me these instruments were recorded meticulously and have a lovely character. In my estimation these can be used in many genres, ranging from chamber music to more cinematic use cases. There are a ton of useful articulations and all the nifty UI / UX stuff we’ve come to expect. This is likely going to be one of people’s workhorses. Very impressed.

    Great library. Having much fun!

I have fallen in love with this library. I have just created a template for use in Dorico. The Odeon Chamber Strings already sound great out of the box! And I'm excited about how easy it is to use with Dorico. Right now I'm using a few classical composers like Mozart and Haydn to try out the library. There is still a lot to discover - I love it!!!
